Stainless steel 316H bolts have roughly 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum with higher carbon content (roughly 0.04–0.10%) than standard 316. Elevated carbon enhances tensile strength and creep deformation resistance at temperatures to 800°C (1472°F) while being superior in corrosion resistance, particularly against pitting and crevice corrosion by chloride. The alloy is also good in toughness and ductility in harsh environments.
